As part of our program’s 10-year anniversary celebration, we’re spotlighting 10 clients. For June, meet an Elizabethtown-based company that began working with the Kentucky APEX Accelerator in 2021: Safewayz Traffic Control, LLC.

Summer’s here and road construction projects are taking place all over Kentucky. Safewayz Traffic Control, LLC works to ensure these types of road projects are completed safely – for everyone involved.
For Shoshawna Williams, owner of Safewayz Traffic Control, LLC, success begins with a simple but powerful goal: being the best at what she can. She applies that mindset to her company which specializes in maintaining safe and efficient traffic flow in active construction zones. From utility work to roadway projects, the company plays a critical role in ensuring that the work can be completed safely while protecting her team, the construction crews they serve and the drivers who navigate through the construction zones.

Williams’ journey into the industry began in 2016 with FlagPros, where she was trained to what she refers to as the “gold standard” of traffic safety and flow management. At the time, companies like FlagPros filled a vital need by providing trained flaggers for utility companies that did not maintain in-house traffic control teams. While FlagPros had strong relationships with utility providers, expanding into construction projects proved more challenging—an experience that would later shape Williams’ own business strategy.

Seeing the opportunity to bridge industries with her expertise, Williams launched Safewayz Traffic Control, LLC with a hands-on approach that sets her apart. “I’m owner/operator as well—unlike many other traffic control services. I’m out there with my team,” she said. Her leadership style reflects both accountability and deep industry expertise.

Williams also holds a unique place in the industry. She was told by City of Louisville officials that she is the first woman-owned, minority flagging company in the area—an accomplishment that underscores both her trailblazing role and the ongoing need for greater diversity in the field.
As she prepared to launch her business, Williams sought guidance from CREATE (Central Region Ecosystem for Arts, Technology & Enterprise) where director Lisa Williams provided valuable assistance with business planning. Through that connection, she was introduced to the Kentucky APEX Accelerator, where procurement consultants played a key role in her development as a government contractor.

Working initially with The Kentucky APEX Accelerator Senior Procurement Consultant Shawn Rogers, Williams gained support in market research and capability statement development. Procurement Consultant J.C. Watkins provided additional guidance that helped Williams refine pricing strategies and strengthen her competitive positioning.

Williams’ dedication and impact have not gone unnoticed. Working with the Kentucky APEX Accelerator, she was connected to an opportunity to apply for the Turner-University of Kentucky Construction Business Accelerator in Lexington and was selected for the program. She is also a proud graduate of the 2025 cohort of The Well Incubator in Louisville. These programs gave her valuable insight into the internal decision-making processes of construction firms. Most recently, she was nominated for the EPIC Awards by NAWBO Kentucky (National Association of Women Business Owners.

Today, Safewayz Traffic Control LLC continues to grow, grounded in its mission to keep people safe and projects running smoothly. For Williams, the work is about much more than traffic control—it’s about leadership, opportunity and setting a standard of excellence in every job, every time.
