As part of our program’s 10-year anniversary celebration, we’re spotlighting 10 clients. For May, it’s our pleasure to feature a company that joined the Kentucky APEX Accelerator in 2025: BG Workforce Solutions (BGWS) headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky.

BGWS is a rapid innovations defense contractor with a focus on developing a skilled industrial workforce and advanced manufacturing capacity while enabling software systems for the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Defense Industrial Base (DIB).
The company delivers training, technology and readiness solutions that help their DoD partners qualify personnel faster, standardize technical operations and strengthen capabilities across the DIB — with a particular emphasis on the Indo-Pacific region.
At the core of BGWS’s offerings is a proprietary, Impact Level 4 (IL4)-authorized software suite built to solve defense workforce challenges. CertiFLEX™ is a flexible learning management system (LMS) used across service branches by both civilians and service members for technical training and certification. It stands as one of only a few non-service-specific LMS’s authorized to host and deliver controlled unclassified information (CUI) training content at the IL4 security level.
These key components are part of the learning tool:
GEMINI™ empowers technicians with real-time, point-of-work digital guidance integrating extended reality, 3-D models and technical documentation.
SMARTS™ delivers workforce intelligence through automated skills tracking and data-driven reporting.
TAILWIND™ -- an AI-powered assistant – provides seamless access to content and training support across the entire software ecosystem.
BGWS supports a prototype advanced manufacturing and workforce development facility at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii that has drawn attention at the highest levels of defense leadership. The company also leads the Advanced Manufacturing Training Suite (AMTS) program at Honolulu Community College which delivers technical training and workforce readiness in critical industrial trades alongside local educational and community partners to build lasting regional capacity.
The company’s growth trajectory has accelerated because of strategic partnerships and continued investment in emerging technology. In collaboration with The Ohio State University and Duval Software, BGWS’s work with the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute (ARM) developed Project VIPER (Visual Inspection of Performance Evaluation in Real-time) — an AI-powered robotic intelligent tutor capable of monitoring and guiding technical workers through complex procedures in real time. VIPER debuted at the 2026 Defense Manufacturing Conference in Orlando, underscoring BGWS’s position at the intersection of defense manufacturing and AI innovation.

Plus, BGWS maintains relationships with organizations like the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) and the National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS).
BGWS Director of Contracts & Business Development, Chelsi Pulte, said, "The Kentucky APEX Accelerator has been a tremendous resource for BG Workforce Solutions as we’ve grown our presence in the federal contracting space. Rooted in Kentucky with a reach across the Pacific, BGWS continues to grow its team, expand its technological platform and deliver on a mission that sits squarely at the center of national security: ensuring the Defense Industrial Base has the skilled workforce it needs when and where it matters most.
