Communications & Nonprofit Administration Internship

Internship Description

KY APEX Accelerator is looking for a self-driven, detail-oriented intern with interest in the fields of communications and/or nonprofit management. This role will report directly to the Communications Coordinator and will assist with a variety of tasks related to KY APEX Accelerator's website, social media, webinars, marketing materials, database and Excel reports.

Compensation

$15 per hour

About KY APEX Accelerator

The mission of the Kentucky APEX Accelerator (KY APEX Accelerator) is to promote Kentucky’s economic development by assisting companies in the process of government contracting. We are a nonprofit organization funded in part by the Department of Defense, and our services include virtual and in-person training events, one-on-one coaching, market research and more. Our vision is to grow Kentucky’s economy one small business at a time.

 

KYPTAC Headquarters is located in the Dudley Square building in downtown Lexington, KY. Free parking is available. Office hours are 9 AM-5 PM Monday-Friday, and our staff enjoy a hybrid schedule of in-office and remote work.

Duties Include

  • Create and manage virtual events in Zoom and in the KY APEX Accelerator database

  • Schedule social media posts for LinkedIn and Twitter via Buffer

  • Update website content via Wix website platform

  • Assist with data management and reporting, including entering data into Excel spreadsheets

  • Post contracting opportunities for clients on KY APEX Accelerator's Bid Notice Center platform

  • Create graphics in Canva and/or Adobe if skillset includes Graphic Design (not required to be hired for internship)

  • Assist with other duties as assigned by Communications Coordinator and Executive Director

 

Qualifications, Requirements & Expectations

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and remain goal-oriented

  • Excellent time and project management skills, punctuality and respect of deadlines

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Consistent and effective communication with supervisor, especially during remote shifts

  • Flexibility to complete both mundane/repetitive tasks and creative projects with excellence

  • Ability to collaborate with remote team members across the state of Kentucky

  • Confidence in learning new computer systems and platforms

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel and Outlook)

  • Familiarity with Wix website platform and Buffer social media management platform preferred

  • Familiarity with Graphic Design and/or experience using Canva preferred

Schedule Expectations

Intern is expected to work at least 3 days per week for a total of 10-15 hours per week (negotiable). Weekly schedule will be determined at point of hire. This role has hybrid flexibility, so some shifts may be completed remotely. This role also includes an option to continue working during the summer. (Fully remote work is an option during summer break).
